News Update (Jan 13th, 2010) this project is almost 5 years old!

Looking at the state of things and the lack of interest from others, I am thinking about scrapping the project, quitting modding and moving on to something else. I haven't given up on it yet, but am not far from it.

Searching the internet today I find there's nothing good being said about the project; there are people complaining about the mod all around the world, and this is mostly because of the peds missing from the streets.

All the feedback points to one thing.

Why are there no peds?

I need to know where the streets are first before we add the peds/ vehicles, (you can not do it the other way around)

I have to put more time on the maps first, trying to get it all right as I have remodelled most of what couldn't be ported over from SA, and I have only started repairing and updating LC.

''Doesn't anyone understand what It took to bring this all together, having to do things in the right order so everything else fits in.''

Why can you not port this to SA or GTAIV?

Why I can not use the SA engine and any other? - Simple, I got permission to do this on VC back in 2003. When I went to R* about doing the SA version, I was turned away and any other contact was soon ignored. (if *R are reading this, thanks guys)

GTAIV, all the models would need to be converted a different way, plus IDE and IPL files.

What am I doing now?

Working on LC, replacing some of the badly made models that Rockstar created and this is because you only saw GTAIII from one level, the missions are based on street level only, the player was not expected to see the city from way above.

Why did you release a mod with no Peds or Vehicles?

I hoped people would be able to find bugs for me, this would speed up how I could fix everything on the maps before I moved onto other stages of the project.

What needs doing?

Alot!

1. Hacking the limits on the engine still. The Ped limit still is a big issue but not impossible.
2. I am still unable to get the Peds and Vehicles across the maps.
3. Replace Andy's Limit adjuster as this was an unfinished beta, that adds bugs to the VC exe.
4. More work on the maps,  replacing those beta bridges.
5. Remove DeathSquad's tunnels, as he gave up on it and helping me.
6. SCM code the missions, from the storyline we have had done.
7. Work out what vehicles we need, because I have 600 in the game.
8. Anything else that I haven't put here to improve the project, I am sure someone else will think of something.

Have you had any support of others?

Not much, People do tend to drop by and contribute something now and again and of course these people have been credited, but no one sticks around.

Why did you release the mod?

This started out as a research project just for VC only, I just wanted to know how much the engine could handle with the computers specs I had at the time, and running the mod at full speed with the hardware I have now.

When will you release Beta 52.0?

When I get some of the other issues fixed, mostly peds.

Do you think your get any help from other modders or coders

No, but for many reasons.

VC engine is now classed as retro modding, The general modding community moves forward with the times but sometimes to fast.

Tools that was started for VC or SA may be only betas and may never get finished, If those people spend more time researching these tool it would benefit everyone, we would see better mods.

There has been more tools made for VC, then any other modding game out there not just GTA!, the same can not be said for SA, or GTAIV.

I am a strong believer that you finish what you started, and I would like to have seen all GTA engines tooled up.

So your going to finish this project?

Maybe.

What mapping tools do you use?

Ked (Moomapper) mostly, but notepad is the best tool.

Why the VC engine?

VC engine is the best engine to mod with hardly any restrictions for Rockstar.

The Future?

This depends on what support I get, I have had people come to me in the past but they do not stick around much, it has been me all the way working alone on this, and this was not what I had in mind when I first started.

I do have a life, so lately I have no spent as much time on this as I might like too.

Hey Keith,

I know I haven't been very active on your forum, and I haven't been aware of your mod for a long time at all but since I'm a real fan of your work I couldn't ignore this post.

First of all: the people that are constantly complaining are clearly not familiar with modding. All they want is someone to make exactly the thing they're looking for, and if it could they'd have it finished yesterday. Those people are (in my opinion) not to be taken seriously. I understand that they make it look like most people don't like your work. I guess it's easier for them to say 'damn' in stead of asking wether they can help you...

I for myself don't have experience modding GTA so I don't know what your exactly doing, but as far as my brain goes you're doing a magnificent job. I really love your mod and i've been looking for gaps and bugs etc, but all the ones I found were already posted...

I hope the other people who are to read this understand the need of support, for you all can't except Keith to go on modding if no one seems to support him. And in my opinion it'd be a real bummer if he stops, since this mod is the best ever to come out, even in beta stage.

Everybody, stop complaining, and if you can't: try to fix the things you're complaining about.

Keith: you're doing a great job, and I'd really like to see this mod finished, but if you keep on getting negative reactions I'd agree with you to quit the mod. Just don't forget real life has a higher priority then everything digital.

well done mate, spanking great job can't wait for it. if you need any help from a complete novice when it comes to modding im here (sorry, i know that sounds quite bad). i do do a bit of drama, so if you need a voice im here, however just to let you know i am 17 with a childs voice (i my opinion) and i am english. if i can help then theres a small resume, if i can't, good luck with your already great mod. (which by the way has got me back into Vice city) and if you do decide to stop it would be a shame but if i had ignorant people who constantly nagged me for something which I had already explained crystal clear, i might get a tinsy bit fed-up.

all the best

I decided to come back to this, only to find that my Dev machine is not booting up, one of the Harddrives have failed.

I can not do anything till this is fixed, and I am not working right now, so replacement parts are not going to happen.

I wish I could say the project is not dead, but having no team and no tech interest at all, I guess I have to put this on the shelve for now.

I have not stopped anyone from contributing, still no-one has come forward either for sometime.

This forum will still be running, I tend to keep my sites running for a very long time and there are other boards on here as well, There will be other topics on this board besides GTA modding to keep this forum going.

Guess that's it.

Come on man don't give up. I'm watching this project since 2005 and from time to time I'm looking on the forums and I'm expecting to see new things. I'm always impressed by your work and I honestly believe that you should go further. Why? Well...show me a finished project. Honestly right now you should show me a finished project to prove that it's not a great choice to continue it. I saw a lot of projects...I'm watching another project (a big patch) for a racing game since 2006 and I'm expecting to see it done. Why? Because good things like this are very rarely and trust me that in the end...it will be a great mod. A lot of cars, a lot of streets, great atmosphere, a good story I hope and a finished mod will impress any player which respects the quality mods. Maybe you heard about projects like GTA Great Britain which is dead or GTA Berlin which is almost dead from what you can see on the official site. I saw a smaller mod GTA Mafia Stories which is dead as well and the forum it's locked. Look how many big projects left unfinished and the fans remained with the R*  games because no one else wasn't able to finish a seriously modification.

Now I'm gonna tell you about that unofficial patch for that racing game. Why I'm expecting a patch made big I big fan for an old racing game made in 2003? Because I could play newer games with better graphics, gameplay and many other things. Well I want that patch because it's transforming the game into another with better graphics (Pixel Shader 3.0 Support), new sounds etc. But the nice part it's that the game will include many types of racing from Rally DTM to street racing and illegal events. The tuning it's so detailed...you can build the engine from 0 and a lot of "fireworks" like big flames when engine blows and a lot of smoke...it's possible to add snow and dirt. And multiplayer up to 16 players. I'm waiting the patch because it will include everything I like in ONE GAME. And that's the best part in this...you will include all those cities in ONE GAME. R* will never do something like this and those guys with GTA United are doint a great work but I'm not sure that will not end like GTA GB or other. After projects like SOL on SA engine and the other project with 30cities I thought you can finish the SOL on VC project to show every modder that a project can be FINISHED. FINISHING it's the thing that brings the real respect.

As advice I could tell you that it would be much better if you would spent your time to do base things. Try to leave for later things that you know you are 100% to make them good (like moddeling stuff you can't convert or easier things) and concentrate to make the hardest things like paths for peds or cars etc. If you'll post in 12 months things like bugs resolved you won't attract much attention. But paths for cars and for peds or progress in this way would mean much greater support from the comunity. I understand how hard it is to make these things but progress in this way will attract the interes you want. I'm haven't posted here too often but that doesn't mean I'm now watching you. So keep up cause I'm with eyes on you Cheesy Just thing about it.

Greetz from A BIG FAN of yours Smiley

Hello Keith,
I've kept an eye on your work for a very long time, hoping that one day I could see this huge game come to life with missions and/or online features. You've always done an awesome job and what you've done so far is simply amazing, I never even tought that was possible.

GTA VC is the game of the GTA series I've enjoyed the most, and that I've played over and over again, and I believe this mod has an incredible potential, as I don't think that today's game, nor tomorrow's game will be more enjoyable than this one. You're pushing a great game beyond it's limits and I could never be more amazed by your work and devotion.

I don't know exactly how you're modding, i'm no modding expert, but I'm a computer technician, I have a lot of general knowledge about computers, but very few knowledge in coding, so if you find any "job" I could do to help, i'd be more than honored to help!

I'm beggining a certificate this winter that will teach me how to code in many languages, so I guess I'll be able to help a lot more then.

Never give up, you'll always find support!

People are used to seeing things simple and working, so it's kinda "normal" that the general public doesn't get much interest in your project at first sight, but once it gets enjoyable and simple enough, i'm 110% sure that all those GTA fans and a lot more people will do anything to play that mod and murder civilians in SOL Tongue

As many others said, don't give up, but real life always comes first!

Thankyou mate.

The project now is going strong with alot of new features.

I know I have not been releasing updates like in the past, but the end result will be something to shout about.

We need people who can model and texture, this is where we are lacking with progress, so if you know anyone.

Please send them this way.

Hi Keith,

Your mod is the best mod I have ever seen and you are also the best modder out there. You are truly dedicated to doing this project as there are several releases to date already.

Congratulations.....

I have a question however...About the water as I have not tried out the mod yet until I find my copy of Vice City in which I have misplaced....

I have seen the water texture in one of the movies around San Andreas to have altered textures than the ones used in VC. Is it possible to make them all uniform?? Is the water around San Andreas and Liberty City solid or liquid??

I am also surprised that you have over 600 vehicles already. Is the Hydra and San Andreas tank included? (Sorry if this is listed somewhere)

Anyways, keep it up. I support you all the way...But don't over push yourself as well. Good luk.

Water has been done!

Same water texture everywhere including the dam areas.

Tunnels are finished to a point where these are accessible now, no more drawning.

We have a lot of vehicles, but if we get permission from other vehicle creators I would love to have more. Smiley

Thats all I can say for now as the rest is to be seen Smiley
